Somalia is emerging from over two decades of civil strife and 2017 is set to be a pivotal year for the recovering nation. Somalia has entered a new phase as a nation and has elected a new president on February, 8, 2017. The United States continues to be one of Somalia’s main partners, investing in a multitude of sectors in the country. Ka Joog is planning to host the first national Somali American sociopolitical Summit, which will bring young Somali intellectuals together from across the United States. The intention of the Summit is to gather young minds together to discuss Somalia’s path forward from 2017-2021, with an emphasis on federalism, national security, youth/women empowerment and human rights. More importantly, the Summit will discuss how Somalia can achieve full statehood and build a strong democratic state by 2021. This Summit is one of many series of summits that we will be hosting throughout the United States over the next 4 years.
We seek to reshape American policies and resources toward Somalia, while creating a pathway for American companies to better invest in Somalia. Additionally, we will place special emphasis on enhancing US-Somalia relations. Our Speakers
The Summit will feature notable speakers from the U.S. State Department, USAID, members of U.S. Congress, Bancroft Global Development, members of the Federal Government of Somalia, and young Somali-American intellectuals. Our keynote speaker is Hon. Yussar Abrar, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Somalia.
