We’re rolling up our sleeves and having fun filling plastic bags with items important to the health of unsheltered individuals, such as soap, toothbrushes, socks, etc. The bags will be distributed by our Homeless Outreach teams and by volunteers who’d like some to hand out to people they encounter.
This is a pilot project with the Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Saint Paul program. After the event, we’ll be sending you a brief survey so we can develop a “pop-up program” for other organizations who’d like to do this, as well as for future People Incorporated events.
Here’s why we’re asking for your help: • We’ll add a contact card to each bag so unsheltered individuals will receive immediate care and information about our services. They’ll know where to find help when ready. It often takes multiple contacts over time to earn trust and direct individuals to needed services. • Volunteers will learn about homeless issues and be empowered to help, directly reaching more people than our limited staff can contact if they choose to take Kindness Kits to distribute. • It’s more than we can do alone.
Thanks to our partners at HealthEast Care System and Hiway Federal Credit Union who are hosting employee packing events at their businesses.
